"These snapshots celebrate the everyday endeavors of ordinary citizens by creating moments of magic that portray them in an extraordinary light"
Alexandre Orion's workunites photography with graffiti. His stencilsdemonstrate a wonderful sense of humour and ingenuity however; it is hisphotographs that are his final
artistic statement. The importance for him lies in the interaction of his painting with the activity of the city. He will often spend days or even months waiting to capture a perfect moment of synchronicity. Sometimes it will be a reaction to his image from the public but often it will
be an accidental occurrence or a poetic association.
The lives of the poor and homeless are often the focus of his photographs and his stencils create a theatre in which they play a part. These snapshots celebrate the everyday endeavors of ordinary citizens by creating
moments of magic that portray them in an extraordinary light. In these brief moments, the outstretched wings of an angel embrace a shopper resting in the shade and a stenciled horse echoes the toil of a man pulling a cart. Orion's paintings are inventively staged but the beauty lies in the unplanned instances that can turn an ordinary streetscape into work of art.
